Prod. Code: Bare Fiber

APPLICATION:
The Photonix Bare Fiber Adapter (BFA) and Adapter Kits are designed to provide the test technician with a quick and easy way to connect unterminated fiber to test or communication equipment.  Connection to unterminated fiber is often necessary during installation, acceptance testing of fiber, and emergency restoration.  In situations where performing a full termination is not practical, the BFA will often prove to be invaluable.  Note that the BFA is not a substitute for a properly terminated fiber and a 1-3dB loss can be expected.  Although not as accurate as a terminated connection, this connection is suitable for OTDR acceptance testing, visible fault location, talkset connection, approximate loss / continuity testing, and cleave inspection.

DESCRIPTION:
The Photonix Bare Fiber Adapter consists of an aluminum clamping mainframe and a connector module.   By simply selecting the appropriate style connector module for your application and locking it into the mainframe with the thumbscrew, the BFA is ready to go.  To use the BFA, simply strip and cleave the fiber, squeeze the mainframe clamping button, and insert the fiber until its endface is flush with the connector endface.  The padded clamp will hold the fiber in place instead of epoxy.

The Photonix Bare Fiber Adapter has a surprising number of features considering its simple function.  The distinct advantage of the Photonix BFA over many other types is that it is modular by design and may be disassembled in the field for easier cleaning of fiber debris.  More importantly, the Photonix BFA features an exclusive dual composition grip which exhibits up to 5 times the fiber retention strength of comparable units making it useful not only in a gentle lab environment but in the field as well.  Lesser features include a laminated instruction card, an oversized thumbscrew for attaching modules, an anti-roll parts vial with cleanout wire and spare parts, and a zippered cordura carry case (kits only).
